speakin' of movies

i forgot to make mention of a movie brad & i found a few months ago. i think before we were even engaged- but we were talking about it last night so i thought i better blog it before i forget again.
i don't highly recommend alot of movies. but this one was really surprising and really enjoyable. another one kinda under the radar. it's kinda about being positive and we both thought luke wilson did a great job.
plus george lopez is in it. who can resist george lopez?? haha.

pants! pants! pants! :)

i hate pants shopping. my dad went once with me when i was like 15. my mom predicted it would be his first and last time. it was. pants shopping is emotional. i've cried, gotten angry, came home & ate a salad, came home & ate a dozen cookies. it brings out the best and the worst.
remember this???? the curse of the nordstrom pants suit.
well its been hanging in my closet for like a year untouched. why?? the jacket is so darling. but the pants. the pants!! awful. uncomfortable. don't fit at all. *hiss!!*
i finally got around to returning it couple days ago- bless nordstrom's for taking everything back- their one redeeming quality. and then i went on the hunt. 3 stores later and i had to come home, get something to eat and cry.
BUT
after dinner last night brad braved the storm with me.
and thanks to my darling husband I HAVE FOUND IT! the store. THE store. the one where dress pants fit!! he saw a chick wearing a pants suit in the mall & told me to go ask where she got it.
so i did.
the limited.
BLESS THE LIMITED.
they fit.
they're perfect.
cute jacket.
perfect pants.
miracles happen. and sometimes even to me!! hooray!!
pants dance pants dance pants dance!

"And burbled as it came!"

my grandfather has most poems memorized. like hundreds. he has a "poem a day" book that he has had in his house since i can remember. he recited "the crystal stair" at my brother kevin's wedding breakfast. it was hilarious and touching and he was just the cutest thing i'd ever seen.
thus, my mother also is a huge proponant for literature & poetry & we all memorized poems in childhood. she has video of a little row of blonde children repeating "stick to your task til it sticks to you." in college i had that poem on my peg board to remind me to stick with it!
an extended lucas family favorite is the jabberwocky. i am 100% positive every cousin in our family can recite at least a line or two. if we all sat down and tried, between a few we could probably recite the whole thing with little encouragement.
and proof that things you memorize in childhood stay with you, and can show themselves in any situation, today (i'm ashamed to admit) i saw someone, kinda fatter and clumsier and grumpy, barreling down the sidewalk and thought "and burbled as it came!" haha.

for your enjoyment.
the jabberywocky, by lewis carroll:

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe

i'm over making goals

in fact, as i told my friend anne the other day, i prefer to make wishy washy light goals that are very nonspecific so i don't feel like a failure when i don't accomplish them.
goals for 2010:

1. be a BETTER wife
2. exercise MORE.
3. eat HEALTHIER.
4. don't grocery shop with brad anymore- that one IS specific.
5. get to work on time ALL THE TIME.
6. spend LESS money
7. sleep SOUNDER
8. don't hate the few things in life i hate.

there you go.
that is the difference between you and me. and why you will not forget people's birthdays and eat more fruit. bc you probably wrote that down.
